From January 1st 2017, Australia will transition into the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) of classification and labelling of chemicals.
The GHS is a single worldwide methodology for chemical classification, labelling and data sheets (SDS).
The GHS becomes mandatory from Jan 1st 2017 and mainly manufacturers, importers and suppliers of hazardous chemicals are most affected by the transition into the GHS.
The end users of hazardous chemicals will be affected to a lesser extent, however all persons using chemicals within the workplace should understand chemical classification and familiarise themselves with the GHS.
